He has performed all the major clarinet concerti with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and the RTE Concert Orchestra in Ireland and on tour in Britain. He is now regarded as one of the most gifted and versatile musicians working in Ireland today.

As soloist and chamber musician John has performed at the Royal Albert Hall and St. John's Smith Square, London as well as all the major music festivals in Ireland. In May 1999 he was the soloist in the world premiere of Robert Lamb's Clarinet Concerto. Broadcasts include RTE television and radio, BBC radio and TF3 TV in France. 'Flawlessly velvet tone', 'uninhibited radiance', and 'superb artistry' are just some of the plaudits with which his performances have been greeted by the critics.

As a conductor he has worked in Ireland, England, Germany and Canada. He has conducted Opera Theatre Company on tour in Ireland and at the Covent Garden Festival. He is currently musical director of the Dublin Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Hibernian Orchestra.
