John Finucane
John Finucane studied at Trinity College Dublin before embarking
on a career that has seen him excel as an orchestral musician,
chamber musician, soloist and conductor. He has performed all
the major clarinet concerti with the National Symphony Orchestra
of Ireland and the RTE Concert Orchestra in Ireland and on tour
in Britain. He is now regarded as one of the most gifted and versatile
musicians working in Ireland today.
As soloist and chamber musician John has performed at the Royal
Albert Hall and St. John's Smith Square, London as well as all
the major music festivals in Ireland. In May 1999 he was the soloist
in the world premiere of Robert Lamb's Clarinet Concerto. Broadcasts
include RTE television and radio, BBC radio and TF3 TV in France.
'Flawlessly velvet tone', 'uninhibited radiance', and 'superb
artistry' are just some of the plaudits with which his performances
have been greeted by the critics.
As a conductor he has worked in Ireland, England, Germany and
Canada. He has conducted Opera Theatre Company on tour in Ireland
and at the Covent Garden Festival. He is currently musical director
of the Dublin Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Hibernian Orchestra.
In 1995 he was appointed Principal Clarinet with the National
Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and in the same year joined the
teaching faculty of the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
