If you have been to our concerts last year you will remember a wonderful season with highlights being our 30th anniversary concert and Dvorak's Symphony number 8.
2012 promises some fantastic programmes. Rehearsals of Tchaikovsky's Pathetique Symphony and Glinka's Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla are well under way for an exciting concert on 1 April in the RDS concert hall. Performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No 2, will be our inaugural concerto competition winner Máire Carroll. This is a new departure for the Hibernian orchestra and we are delighted to give our support to Ireland's rising stars. Máire is a 19 year old student of John O'Conor and Réamonn Keary at the Royal Irish Academyof Music. She is a prize winner in numerous Feis Ceoil competition and has recently been selected as one of the three Irish competitors in the Dublin International Piano Competition. We look forward to her performance.
In June 2012 we will perform Elgar's beautiful Cello Concerto with soloist Martin Johnson (Principal Cellist with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra), along with Mahler's exciting Symphony No.1, in the National Concert Hall. Thank you for your support. We are privileged to enjoy playing to the high standards of the Hibernian orchestra. This we could not achieve without the support of our sponsors, friends and concert attendees.
